Motorola Moto E40

Motorola Moto E40 Review, Pros and Cons – The Motorola Moto E40 is a new smartphone launched in the European and American market in the month of October. Furthermore, the phone also carries an intentionally good battery to stand out in the entry-level segment. Also, you will get the default Android stock interface which will enhance the UI experience.

Although the mediocre features may shake the feelings of technical users, as you won’t get the high-end features as its sibling Moto G60, the device is still better than the Moto E30. Fortunately, the Moto E40 smartphone features an impressive design layout. But the price varies from country to country, which may make you wonder if it’s worth buying or not. So, let’s go into the detailed review of the Motorola Moto E40 smartphone to find out if the device is a good deal for you.

Motorola Moto E40 Review

Highlights

  1. The device arrives with a 6.5 inches IPS LCD panel with HD+ resolution and 400 nits brightness.
  2. It equips the new Unisoc T700 chipset which offers better processing power than the predecessor.
  3. Plus, you’re getting the standard Android 11 OS experience with a bloatware-free ecosystem.
  4. The company provides a 48 MP main camera with support for an 8 MP selfie camera.
  5. Last but not least, the Motorola Moto E40 comes with a huge battery capacity of Li-Po 5000 mAh with a 10W normal charging support.

Design and Display

Motorola’s E-series is primarily designed to reach low-cost users looking for high-value devices. In this case, even though the phone is made of built-in plastic, it seems to expect from the start. But what makes the Motorola E40 stand out is its curved stripe pattern that looks a bit stiff and at the same time improves the overall look. Also, the phone didn’t have as much impact on the camera as other phones.

In addition to the design, the phone is equipped with the standard build quality and offers color options such as Carbon Gray and Pink Clay. The Gray option looks a bit classic, while the Pink Clay shade gives different vibes. But, it depends on your logic as to which shade option you are looking for as the device. Then the weight reaches up to 198 grams and with that, the phone feels a little heavy. At the same time, the thickness increases due to the enormous capacity of the battery.

Like most entry-level phones, the Motorola Moto E40 sports a back-mounted fingerprint reader on the logo, as usual, while the 6.5 inches IPS LCD panel enhances color gradation. But, the resolution only goes up to 720p, but it might not be an issue here due to its price range. But what’s worth noting about this phone is that you’re getting the smooth experience of the 90Hz refresh rate on the screen. With that, even the phone that wasn’t the gorilla’s glass can be overlooked to some extent.

Memory and Internal

Behind the scenes, the company offers a brand new and unique hardware configuration that may not be seen on any other entry-level phone. Equips the Unisoc T700 chipset; although it may not have the best cloaking speed, the configuration of the 1.8GHz octa-core is still much better than the 1.6GHz. In terms of powers, this chipset’s performance is slightly higher than the of the Helio G70 processor, while the Unisoc T700 can match the Helio G80 chipset.

Graphics quality improved on the next-gen chipset as manufacturers unveiled the Mali G52. For that, you will have a decent gaming experience for the lite games in smooth settings. Also, Android 11 OS inventory features provide subtle customization features, and the best part of the inventory interface is that you’ll get a bloatware-free ecosystem. Also, there is less chance of seeing pop-up ad notifications, unlike Redmi, Tecno, and Infinix phones.

After that, there’s great news: the Moto E40 equips a dedicated secondary storage unit in the SIM tray. It’s been a while since this company added a MicroSD option; most of the time they used the shared SIM slot. At the same time, you are getting 4GB RAM support with 64GB eMMC 5.1 storage, although not as good as the USF storage. This allows you to store up to 1TB of data, while internal storage will provide broad support.

Camera

The camera’s appearance is somewhat downplayed by company standards. It’s not like the Moto phones provide decent photos and video qualities, but they do have flaws. In the entry-level segment, manufacturers have to make sacrifices to maintain a nice price range while cutting corners here and there. Still, the daylight image quality is good enough to satisfy user needs.

Colors may not look warm anymore and get a little saturated, but overall color rendering provides an impressive camera experience. Image processing is slightly behind the trend and low light photography is below average. Also, photos and videos were not consistent with other camera modules other than the 48MP primary camera. In terms of the secondary camera island, the combination of 2MP depth and 2MP macro are present.

But if the phone had a better macro lens or an ultra-large lens, it would have appreciated it more. Either way, you can still shoot videos up to 1080p, while the drastic drop in a snap of the 8MP selfie camera can be seen. However, the overall quality is average and you won’t get as many features in the native camera app. However, you can still improve the image quality with third-party apps.

Battery and Others

Motorola Moto E40’s Li-Po 5000 battery performance is good enough and provides a running time of 8 hours. With so much battery capacity, the phone can remain active in standby mode for more than two days without any problem. But, you won’t see fast charge support on this phone, while you’ll get a standard 10W charger inside the box.

As for additional features, the device renders a 3.5mm jack and an AI button, but the phone lacks a secondary noise-canceling microphone on top. Although, it’s not a new thing on the budget-level smartphone. Moving on to the communication and sensor section, the Motorola Moto E40 hits the Indian smartphone market for $139 (Rs 9,999) approx. It must be said that the general specs are good according to the price range.

  2. Rear mounted fingerprint scanner.
  3. Good daylight photography.
  4. Latest Android 11 OS feature.
  5. Dedicated secondary storage options.

  8. Affordable smartphone.

Cons

  2. Without gorilla glass protection.
  3. Slow charging speed.
  4. Not for heavy gaming or multitasking.
  5. Slightly low audio output.
  6. Low octa-core processing speed.
  7. 720p resolution display.

Conclusion

One of the main reasons why you need to buy the Motorola Moto E40 is because of the bloatware-free interface that gives an almost identical feel to the original Andriod. Also, the screen, performance, and battery will not let you down at all. But the same things can’t be said for the camera department, and that doesn’t improve the camera software.

In short, if you’re looking for a clean Android experience and an affordable phone with long battery life on top, the Motorola Moto E40 is worth recommending. Although if you go with Redmi, Tecno and Infinix branded phones, you’re more likely to notice bloatware. So it’s hard to recommend any alternative at this price range, but it’s worth checking out the Realme Narzo 50i as an alternative.
